SHERIFF RON McNESBY’S BIOGRAPHY

Sheriff Ron McNesby’s law enforcement career began at the early age of 15 as a member of the Junior Deputy/Police Officer’s Program. That early experience helped move him into a full time career in law enforcement. During his 35 years as a deputy with the Escambia Sheriff’s Office, he worked in Investigations, Corrections, Communications and Patrol. He also spent four years as the Public Information Officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

McNesby was elected Sheriff of Escambia County in 2000 and re-elected in 2004. He is responsible for 1116 employees that include road deputies, investigators, civilians and detention deputies for two jail facilities that house over 1900 inmates. McNesby also created an Air Operations Unit with two OH-58 helicopters, used to assist in locating missing persons, recovering stolen property, and assisting other law enforcement agencies in their marijuana eradication, and assessing damage following hurricanes or other disasters.

After Hurricane Ivan’s devastation in 2004, Sheriff McNesby created a self contained Disaster Response Unit to respond immediately to disasters in our community as well as areas along the Gulf Coast and throughout Florida. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, McNesby led the Disaster Response Team to Harrison County, Mississippi where it remained for 30 days and became the hub for personnel from other agencies and organizations as well as the local Sheriff’s Office that had been destroyed. Two weeks after returning home, the unit responded to help Pembrook Pines in south Florida after Hurricane Wilma.

McNesby attended Troy State University and Pensacola Junior College. He continues to maintain his law enforcement certification by attending the required training. McNesby is affiliated with several organizations, including the First Judicial Circuit Law Enforcement Association and the Pensacola Chamber Military Affairs Committee. He was also the Chairman for the 2003 American Heart Walk and appointed to FCAC Board of Commissioners as a Commissioner for accreditation standards.

McNesby is married to his best friend and confidant of 38 years, Nellie. They have two children, Ron, Jr., his wife Tammy,and granddaughter, Emrie and a daughter, Misti.

Sheriff McNesby is an active member of various civic organizations and he and his wife are members of Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida.
