EFRWC NEWSLETTER 1ST QUARTER 2010
Volume 1, Issue
1 From the President’s Desk…….. What a wonderful way to start our year. We had a packed house, approximately three hundred people attended our January luncheon to hear our guest speaker, Former Speaker of the House, Marco Rubio. Everyone enjoyed hearing Mr. Rubio speak so effortlessly why he is seeking election to the U.S. Senate. The event was covered by WCOA and Pensacola News Journal. In the first quarter, we had twenty three new members join our club. We welcome each of you. The Florida Federation of Republican Women has issued a challenge to each club in the state. The one with the highest percentage of new members, for the year, will win a $500 contribution to their club and the second place winner will receive $250. This quarter we ranked fourth out of twenty-seven clubs which is a great start. So my challenge to you is to recruit one new member by inviting them to our luncheons or fundraiser. In the coming months, we must be vigilant in getting Republicans elected at the local, state and national levels. Pick a candidate and volunteer your time to help in their campaign. We will strive to have all Republican candidates seeking local elections speak with our group before the August 24th Primary. We will be awarding two $1000 scholarships and the winners will be presented at our July luncheon. Details and applications are on our webpage www.efrwc.org. Our Fundraiser for this year is Beach Bunco scheduled for Saturday, May 1st at Grand Lagoon Yacht Club. Tickets will be available at the April 26th luncheon and the proceeds will go to the Scholarship Fund. A Silent Auction is planned with items being donated from the candidates at the state and local level. Mark your calendar to come, dine and play Bunco with the candidates. We greatly need your support. Enjoy your summer. Bettye Hodges

Vice President § Get Involved - - Be a Member 2010 is an exciting year for the EFRWC members! With elections just around the corner, we must get involved and assist in taking back our Republican seats locally and nationally. Therefore, we encourage you to join and invite others to join as well. Our club is open to both women and men - so don’t feel left out gentlemen! Membership applications can be found on-line at www.efrwc.org. Applications are not necessary, but appreciated. Membership is $35.00 for women and $20.00 for men (associates). years always give us exciting and, sometimes, controversial speakers
to look forward to, and this one is no exception.
January was off to a good start with Marco Rubio, running for
the U.S. Senate, who gave us one the largest audiences we have ever
had. February’s speakers were candidates running for State Representative,
District 2. March included a School Board, District 1, candidate, as
well as candidates for State Representative, District 1, and those running
for The remaining election season, so far, has the following candidates scheduled: April
26 - For George Touart May 24 - Senator Paula Dockery for Governor and Pam Bondi for Attorney General June 28 - For State Senator, District 2: Dave Murzin, Mike Hill, Greg Evers July
26 - August 23 - For U.S. Representative: John Krause and Jeff Miller I am sure none of you will want to miss the exciting speakers to come. We are still negotiating with some of the other candidates for state office, encouraging them to come to the Panhandle to present their platforms and to seek our support. Dorothy Davis Program Chair § Legislative “Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases:
If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops
moving, subsidize it”-President Ronald Reagan Now more than ever, it is important for all of us to watch the Congress, State and local governments. The economy seems to be the “reason” for anyone wanting to raise taxes! and the recession of last year feeds the fire for more regulation and subsidizing. That is why I send out any information I get concerning legislative issues. It is for you to read, study and decide how you feel about an issue and respond to the appropriate legislative body. I know it seems like a lot (and it is) but there is a lot going on that is important to not only our lives but the lives of our children and grandchildren. Let me know if you need more information. Do you need contact information? Do you want more Federal information? What are the issues that are most important to you? I will do what I can to provide you the answers. Just send them to b4pensacola@aol.com. Pat
